Sochi is a mixture. It has pretty much everything. Low, mid, high-speed corners. It demands optimized setup with a downforce that enables the car to hit two long straights and through corners. It has a few elevation changes. With lower grip tarmac and 90 degree left and right-handers, drivers struggle to carry speed through optimum race line. Demands for optimized suspension setup to hit kerbs and not to hurt tires while speeding through 90-degree corners.

Sector1 (Turn 1-4 )
The lap starts with a straight where cars reach 320 kmph through flat out turn 1.
Start finish straight also becomes the first DRS zone and first opportunity to overtake. The hardest braking point of the lap comes just before turn 2. Entry, as well as exit of the corner, is important to set the car through sweeping the longest high-speed left-hander in the calendar. This part demands suspension setup and aerodynamics to lead through the corner. Sector comes to an end with 90 degree right hander.

Sector 2 (Turn 5 -12)
Now comes hard corners with kinks that challenge braking. Entering the sector with right hander turn 5 sweeps till turn 9 through corners 6, 7, 8 with trickier braking points. The driver has to maintain position and pace to lead through corners and not spin. Turn 10 mid-speed corner leads to second DRS zone flat out of corners 11 and 12. Now the driver has to steer and brake to position the car for better entry in turn 13.

Sector 3 (Turn 13 - 18)
Turn 13 gives drivers another overtaking opportunity. after the chicane of turn 13 and 14. Now comes 4 alternate 90 degree corners to end the lap. LAp ends with double apex corners turn 17 and 18. With sweeping straight from previous sector and continuous corners, rear tyres are strained and much care to be taken while cornering through kerbs.
